MADE IN VIETNAM LEAN STRATEGY – THE LAUNCH PAD FOR VIETNAMESE BUSINESSES OVERCOMING THE MIDDLE-INCOME TRAP AND CONFIDENTLY PROGRESSING INTO DIGITAL ERA

The world is facing a strong change in the way it operates, where the real world and the virtual world become intertwined and interrelated,  where human business activities are carried out with huge support from technology. A number of countries have set the goal of Digital Transformation to seize the opportunity to break out compared to the rest. Vietnam is also not out of the trend. The Vietnamese economy in general and businesses in Vietnam in particular have a great advantage in comparison to other countries in this race which are the young, hard-working and well-trained labor force having good access to and use technology fast. However, the capacity and experience in recognizing the current situation and seizing opportunities of Vietnamese enterprises is a weakness.

According to a survey of the GKM Lean Institute, more than 80% of manufacturing and service enterprises, among the surveyed enterprises, have not really properly perceived the status and strategy to seize opportunities of grow in digital age of their business. Since then, the development strategy of businesses has almost no qualitative change compared to 10 or even 20 years ago. Meanwhile, the golden time to break out is increasingly shorter. According to business leaders, the main reason is that businesses are not aware of the direct impacts of change to businesses, have not prepared the capacity and resources to deploy digital transformation.

At Lean CEO program Made in Vietnam course 40, in module Leaning Strategic Management Made in Vietnam, Dr Nguyen Dang Minh said that nowadays, enterprises cannot ignore and stand outside the overall development situation of the country because enterprises are an important component of the economy. Therefore, Vietnamese businesses need to have a good strategy as a launch pad to get out of the middle-income trap and confidently entering the digital era not only for business but also for a strong Vietnam. The strategy must point out the smart path of development, using the strengths of the business to bring businesses in line with the world’s development standards, participate in the global value chain in a sustainable direction and must be feasible and accept to fight to overcome difficulties. With the verified application in more than 1,000 businesses, Made in Vietnam Lean Strategy Management is an effective solution for businesses in Vietnam.

Also, according to Dr Nguyen Dang Minh after gaining a complete overall strategy in the short, medium and long terms, businesses need to think about how to implement and deploy the strategy most effectively. In the context of having more and more modern tools and methods, businesses need to become smart and alert to choose and avoid spending too much resources (money, time) to get modern tools but not usable effectively. However, the time for the advantage of Vietnam’s golden population will last only about next 15 years, so if we are late, we will not have the opportunity and continue to be in the middle-income trap. That is the judgment of most experts and policy makers assessing Vietnam’s development opportunities in the coming time. The Government has chosen a digital transformation path to promote the strengths of the country’s economy, approaching the development trend of the world digital economy. This is the right and completely feasible path when there is understanding and effort from the whole society in which businesses and organizations play an important role.
